The Goonhilly Chronicle Unbound

Photos: Steve Tanner Unbounded was an exhibition of contemporary art exploring some of the many layers of Cornwall’s social and environmental landscapes. The exhibition took place at the Eden Project in 2019 and showcased work by fifteen artists, each working in or deeply connected to Cornwall.

Phyllida was one of the artists commissioned for Goonhilly Village Green 2019 who also took part in Unbounded.
Somewhere between programme, map, documentation and fiction, she designed the Chronicle as a cosmic parish magazine for the Downs (and surrounding galaxies). Drawn from conversations with other artists commissioned to make work for the project and from Phyllida’s own research into the area, it lightly joined dots and suggested resonances across bodies of scientific, geological and artistic research, prompting multiple ways of reading the landscape.
The Chronicle speaks of distant times and cosmic places in a local tone, playing with conflations of scale, reference frames and the ways we leave our mark on the landscape.
