Goonhilly Village Green was an experimental project led by artists Sara Bowler and Elizabeth Masterton and produced by Field Notes. In 2019, 5 artists were commissioned to produce new art works and a programme of talks and workshops took place in locations on the Lizard and in nearby towns. The project culminated in The Gathering, a village fête style event on Goonhilly Downs,  where artworks and information were shared and a range of activities invited people to engage in their own multi-layered exploration of this special place.

In addition to organising Goonhilly Village Green 2019, Sara was also one of the artists who presented work at the Downs. She worked with Trelowarren Estate to expand her research into boundaries, particularly those between Trelowarren Estate and Goonhilly Downs, focusing in on the five parish boundaries that meet at the Dry Tree standing stone. Considering the significance of the number five to this location, Sara began thinking about the circle of fifths and perfect fifths in music. She used these increments in the creation of her sound piece, working from a starting tone of 432Hz (considered by some to be the frequency of the universe).

Thresholds incorporates field recordings of wind in wires at Trelowarren; chimes from the metal gate at the Haliggye fogou; a heartbeat and historic recordings of telemetry signals from space including the satellites Sputnik and Telstar; and natural phenomena such as proton whistlers and a geomagnetic chorus. The work concludes with a recording of Neil Armstrong stepping from the Lunar landing module onto the Moon on 20 July 1969, an event transmitted globally from Goonhilly Earth Station.
