Some pigeons are warmer than others

James Hankey

Some pigeons are warmer than others is a short video work created by James Hankey for Goonhilly Village Green 2019, an artist-led project investigating the site of Goonhilly Downs on the Lizard Peninsula, Cornwall.

James was one of five artists commissioned to work with partner organisations to assist the development of their work, he was introduced to Goonhilly Earth Station (GES) and Goonhilly Heritage Society (GHS) to explore the history and future of the technologies used on site. Some pigeons are warmer than others developed following a conversation with members of GHS about how pigeons have ‘found a home’ at the neck of the GHY 6 antenna, perhaps because of the warmth induced by the transmitted microwaves. You can find out more about the commission here.
