BETH EMILY RICHARDS
Beth is an artist, researcher, and producer whose practice is social, interconnected, and collaborative. She is based in Plymouth where she splits her time between roles as producer for Take A Part, director of Flock South West and Rame Projects, and her practice as an artist.
We first worked with Beth in 2018 when we showed sound work made with Ancient Scent - a group who formed around an interest in Ithell Colquhoun - as part of Hummadruz at Newlyn Art Gallery. Soon after that we commissioned her for Goonhilly Village Green 2019, inviting her to work with the collections at the Museum of Cornish Life in Helston. Beth brought together seemingly disparate strands of research into Flora Day traditions and satellite communications, to create a few minutes of magic in a performance. Welcome (Sent Forever) was staged on a specially designed ‘cosmic welcome mat’ which was later exhibited in Unbounded at the Eden Project, alongside a recording of the original audio piece, a new song performed by local choir Hum.

Beth is fascinated by the deep and specific knowledge and the communities that spring up out of fandom. Her desire to connect with and learn from the people she is interested in often leads her to co-author work - breaking the barriers of artist and subject.
